Set in Harlem in 1987, it is the story of Claireece Precious Jones, a sixteen-year-old African-American girl born into a life no one would want. Shes pregnant for the second time by her absent father; at home, she must wait hand and foot on her mother, a poisonously angry woman who abuses her emotionally and physically. School is a place of chaos, and Precious has reached the ninth grade with good marks and an awful secret: she can neither read nor write. Precious may sometimes be down, but she is never out. Beneath her impassive expression is a watchful, curious young woman with an inchoate but unshakeable sense that other possibilities exist for her. Threatened with expulsion, Precious is offered the chance to transfer to an alternative school, Each One/Teach One. Precious doesnt know the meaning of alternative, but her instincts tell her this is the chance she has been waiting for. In the literacy workshop taught by the patient yet firm Ms. Rain, Precious begins a journey that will lead her from darkness, pain and powerlessness to light, love and self-determination.

tbh i thought it was kinda shit… nothing good happens, no happy ending… and it was just full of sadness and horrible events… fair enough good acting but i dont see how complete depression defines an excellent movie.
This is dark. As dark can be. Be warned. Absolutely fabulous though as a stand alone, kind of ordeal. In fact, it’s just beyond fabulous. Beyond describable. Watch it! <3

I bawled when I watched this. Like,all over the place. I was spazzing out in my chair at the movies.
the story line hugely reminds me of the colour purple. Even the book. Where an impoverished black girl manages to overcome her oppressive circumstances through the gaining of knowledge such as reading and writing. Very similar but also hugely different. Wonderful movie.
Whilst that is all true, we all need to maintain some level of discipline. Be it excercise or a healthy balance, there are many easy ways to lose weight or to stop yourself from gaining it.

Greasy, fatty food is easy to make and cheaper than really healthy stuff, so it’s preferred by impoverished people in first-world countries who don’t have the time or money to cook proper meals. I get that that might not be the case for the actress, but it probably is for her character.
