It was a bloody good hiding. The US should have asked the British about the Somalis. After all we killed so many of them in a 100 year conflict and they used first Aircraft missiles on an African Nation.

A Marine friend of mine served with a guy (probably in his 40s) who was in Somalia with these guys. He was a helicopter pilot (the little ones you see in the opening scenes with the mini guns) and he said that they fired 1000s of rounds throughout the day. He also was on patrol in several attacks. Oorah
i dont think this movie is about the aim of winning the battle, more about showing the brutal and terrible side of war in general. the somalis are not animals who try to kill what then get in front of their rifles. they had reasons for the anger and hatred towards the us army. on the other hand, the soldiers who died in that battle werent the ones responsible for that.

yes this movie is about the battle of mogadishu in october 1993. you can check it out in wikipedia. basically the us army tried to capture 2 important barre-regime guys but then 2 helicopters were shot down and the us soldiers got surrounded by the somalian militias

at the end of WWI we were invaded by the combined army of Russians and Germans(some break away Generals). We weren’t that rich, we were poor and torn apart by war.
There were 80,000 of them – and only 10,000 thousand of poorly armed Latvians.
They were better equipped and all that bullshit, but guess what! We won! We defeated them on a much higher scale.
