It was yet another fairly slow news day in Computer gaming land. Is anyone surprised that Battlefield Bad Company 2 Vietnam is being shown for the first time at the Tokyo Game Show?

• Lots of new patches are available via Steam for Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, Team Fortress 2, Counter-Strike Source, Day of Defeat Source, Garry’s Mod, Fallen Earth, Gratituious Space Battles, and Stargate Resistance.
• Also the Steam release of Sacraboar has a new update that adds 10 new missions, new achievements, Steam Cloud supports and multi-monitor support.
• All of the Infinite Interactive Puzzle games, including Puzzle Quest 2, now have Steam Cloud support.
• The StarCraft II forums now have some answers to some common map editor questions.
• Want to make a mask that looks like Borderlands‘ Psycho Bandits? Here’s how you do it.

It’s Wednesday and that means its time for the Computer game download site Direct2Drive to offer up a new set of games on sale for just $6 as part of its sixth anniversary this month. From now until next Wednesday, the list of games that are on sale for $6 each include Zombie Pirates, Fallen Earth, Sid Meier’s Pirates, SWAT 4, Disciples II Gold, Frontlines Fuel of War, King’s Bounty: Armored Princess, Fort Zombie and Crayon Physics Deluxe.

In addition for today only, Direct2Drive has put The Sims 3 on sale for $19.95 along with the expansion pack The Sims 3 Ambitions for #14.95.

Even though the Labor Day holiday is over everyone still seems to be recovering from PAX Prime 2010. And we have the Tokyo Game Show coming up next week which, while its mostly about console games, could yield a few game announcements as well.

• The historical RTS game Theatre of War 2: Korea from 1C Company is now titled Theatre of War 3: Korea. We don’t know why.
• A new Garry’s Mod update is now available via Steam.
• Speaking of which, you can check out what Garry of Garry’s Mod thinks about Mafia II.
• And speaking of which you can now purchase the original Mafia from Steam for $9.99.
• You can also get the acclaimed indie game VVVVVV from Steam for both PC and Mac with a 10 percent discount.
• Want to play older Direct Draw games like the old Wing Commander titles in Windows 7? This man has a solution.
• Could South Korea ban access to all games that don’t get a rating from the government? Maybe.

Tom Clancy may not have written a novel in several years, but that doesn’t keep his insanely marketable name off of games based on “near future” events. HAWX is one of these, and the second one continues this tradition of politically-charged thrills mixed with high-speed explosions. Want proof? Just take a look at this launch trailer. It’s so full of your standard political thriller stereotypes (terrorists, Middle East, modern weaponry, references to military figures), but as long as we get some awesome missiles and explosions, we’re happy!

Labor Day is over; now ironically a lot of folks on vacation have to go back to work. Bummer.

• Kalypso Media sent over word that the historical trade-strategy game Patrician IV has gone gold and will be released as scheduled on September 14.
• There’s a new and fairly large Puzzle Quest 2 patch update available now on Steam.
• There’s also a minor new update for the Steam client available to download.
• The upcoming indie game Frozen Synapse is offering a pre-order discount of 25 percent if you put in the code INDIEPOWER at checkout.
• The cult hit movie The Room gets its own (unofficial) Flash game. You should be scared.

It’s time for two more Computer games to get their prices sliced in Direct2Drive’s latest daily sale. This time the games in question both come from THQ’s Relic Entertainment. Two of Relic’s acclaimed RTS games are now on sale until Monday.

One is Relic’s WWII-themed title Company of Heroes. You can grab from Direct2Drive for just $4.95. The other is a more recent game, Warhammer 40,000 Dawn of War II. • Steam has Cossacks: Back to War on sale for 20 percent off. You can also pre-order F1 2010 via Steam and get 10 percent off.
• Steam also has patch updates for Team Fortress 2, The Settlers 7, and Puzzle Dimension.
• Steam is letting folks pre-load R.U.S.E.
• If you are going to PAX Prime you can get some exclusive Penny Arcade A30 headsets from Astro Gaming.
• The IndieCade games festival has named its finalists for the indie games festival in October.
• Is Valve getting ready to port its games to Linux. It sure seems so.

The Company of Heroes games are not the only titles on sale this weekend on the Steam Computer game download service. Gamers can also check out the indie game Altitude with a nice price cut as well as a chance to play the full game for the price of, well, nothing.

Yep, the 2D cartoony-style aerial combat title from developer Nimbly Games is on sale from now until Monday for a mere $4.99, a big 50 percent price cut from its normal price. But if you don’t want to spend those few dollars on an impulse purchase, fear not. You can also download and play the full version of the game for free until Sunday.
